The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Kevin O’Neill, is a wonderful graphic novel which take several famous (and not-so-famous) literary characters and mix them up together for an adventure of a lifetime. I thought it would be fun to read those classic novels and then the graphic novel to see how the creators managed to take such classics and mix them up all together.
Hence I came up with…
1. The goal is to read the classic books and the graphic novel to see how they all tie together. No blog is needed, a review on Amazon, Goodreads, etc. is good enough.
2. What counts: books, eBooks, audio books
3. Crossovers from other reading challenges count.
The books are (in no specific order):
– Dracula by Bram Stoker
– Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
– Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
– The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells
– The First Men in the Moon by H.G. Wells
– Any Fu Manchu novel
– Any Sherlock Holmes novel
– Any Allan Quatermain novel
– Any James Bond novel
– The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novel to tie it all together. (if you don’t have it in your local library Amazon sells affordable issues).

It’s perpetual, thanks so much for joining.
Sounds interesting, I’ve read most of these books at some time and love books that allude to others
No fair! Did you have to go and set up this challenge right when I promised not to do any more challenges?
Come on, just one more…
Well, I guess one more doesn’t make a big difference in the grand scheme of things. 🙂 I’m in!
Thanks for making this a Perpetual Challenge! There is a 2012 challenge for this already but, when I saw your perpetual one, I immediately signed up!

I love it – and that it doesn’t have a due-date, as I’m perpetually behind on my list of “to be read” things! I don’t have a page link yet – am scheduled for a while already and need to figure out what to move around so I can get this one up soon, and when I do, will post the link here so I can be official… Thanks for the challenge – it’s a great idea, and I look forward to hearing what you/others think about the translation of the characters from their “real” books to TLoEG.
What a great challenge! I wanted to read these books anyway.
Some of my favorite books already on the list…certainly I’ll enjoy the others, and the graphic novel itself. I have a year to do it, eh? I’m in.
Count me in!

I am finally thinking about reading challenges. I know what perpetual means, but not with regards to reading challenges, so, ould you tell me what you mean by perpetual here?
Perpetual means that there is not time limit, start and end whenever you can.
I’m signing up! Here’s my post about this challenge: http://theolivareader.blogspot.com/2011/12/league-of-extraordinary-gentleman-book.html
