“Anna Karenina” by Leo Tolstoy is a fictional book which was first published between 1873 to 1877 in the periodical The Russian Messenger. Even though the complete novel was published to mediocre reviews, others consider it the best realistic-fiction story written.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson (my thoughts) have produced some wonderful covers for this fantastic story. This novella could be read as one, that of split personality, but also could be a pathological angle of investigating the nature of mental illness
What I love about this book is that the translators took their time to write an excellent introduction and, best of all, wonderful footnotes
Dorian’s wish fulfilled, he stays young, but the portrait begins to transform into the image of his soul. Dorian Gray becomes a monster underneath his skin.
An English solicitor named Jonathan Harker travels from England to meet Count Dracula in his castle in Transylvania to provide legal real estate support. Harker soon discovers he is a prisoner in the castle and noticed Dracula’s nocturnal life.
The few interesting events that do happen in this book are being told in such short order that it seems the author glossed over them on purpose
The dark, brooding and punishing interactions between the complex characters are a mastery of storytelling. The characters are also part of this complex plot
The main characters, Jim Hawkins and Long John Sliver have certainly cemented themselves as two of the most intriguing and dimensional characters in literature
