New Year’s Resolution: Read… less?

December 31, 2013

Yes, my New Year’s Resolution is to read less.

Let me explain.

I have had my blog for several years and enjoyed it very much, but what I found recently is that I no longer read for pleasure, but for the sheer volume.
That is not my goal.

I found that books I bought took a backseat to tours, indie authors, or other commitments. All are worthy and I can say that I enjoyed 95% of the books I read, but I would like to start reading for pleasure with all the pressure that I put myself under to finish a book by a certain date.

I’m not stopping, simply cutting back a bit and being a lot more selective about what I read while enjoying my hobby more.

This is why I stopped reviewing for publishing companies. I wanted to read books I enjoyed rather than books I had to.

I haven’t really stopped reviewing from any source, just taking it easy a bit.
      But I understand your point.

I know what you mean! Until I cut back on blogging, I was always thinking about what my next read would be before I even finished the book I was reading. It definitely cuts down on the pleasure of reading.

Sounds good! I kind of did that this past year, or tried to, but I have a problem getting a review written and posted when there’s been no promise to do so and no deadline! (Since I’m usually late with deadlines, I try not to sign up for tours that require posting on specific dates.) So I end up not reviewing many of the books I just read for pleasure, but I guess that’s OK, too!
Good luck with your goal for 2014!

    Zohar,
I know what you mean by wanting to read for pleasure and I share your feelings.
The photo you have of the books in the air says it all.

PS Any advice on finding someone to help with a design of a book cover? I finished writing my second novel and someone is helping with the editing but need help with the other.

That rings a bell. I’ve been trying to cut back a bit for a couple of months!
