Robinson Jeffers (10 January, 1887 – 20 January, 1862) was an American poet, known for mastering epic poems.

  1. Mr. Jeffers was born in Allegheny, PA, to a Presbyterian minister. Allegheny, PA is now called Pittsburgh.
  2. The poet’s father, Reverend Dr. William Hamilton Jeffers was not only a minister, but also a scholar of ancient languages and Biblical history.
  3. The poet’s brother, Hamilton Jeffers, is a famous astronomer.
  4. Mr. Jeffers attended schools in Switzerland, Germany, and France and was fluent in three languages (English, French, and German) by the time he was 12 years old.
  5. In both universities Mr. Jeffers attended, Occidental College and the University of Southern California, he studied literature, medicine and was known as an avid outdoorsman.
  6. During the 1920s and 1930s Mr. Jeffers was famous for his rugged outdoor experiences, solitary living and writings on the beauty and danger of the outdoors.
  7. Together with his lover, Una Call Kuster, he bought and built a famous granite house called “Tor House and Hawk Tower”, in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
  8. The poet’s epic poem Euripides’ Medea was adapted to Broadway and the play became a hit.
  9. He is one of the few poets to be on the cover of Time Magazine.
  10. Mr. Jeffers poems have been translated into many languages and have been popular around the world, especially in the Czech Republic and Japan.
