Thoughts:
I know next to nothing about the stars, but I love everything “space”. I’m always excited when new discoveries are found and when new adventures are afoot. Because my skills at recognizing heavenly bodies are so lacking, is the reason I found National Geographic Backyard Guide to the Night Sky, 2nd Edition by Andrew Fazekas and Howard Schneider to be an invaluable resource in my bookish arsenal.
This National Geographic book is more for those of us who want to start learning about the night’s sky. Of course, trying to find a dark sport in the suburbs to look up and is not easy, but certainly doable.
The book is full of great pictures (which are informative as well as up to the standards of National Geographic), facts and good places to see the starts.
The book is an easy read, and very interesting. It’s not just about star constellations, but about many heavenly bodies (like asteroids). After reading the book, it’s easier to know what to look for in the night sky – even for an amateur.
