Thoughts:
It’s not a secret that I tremendously enjoy spy stories and Mossad Agent Cobra by Dov Nardimon is no exception. The novel is fast paced, well written story which has its roots in history.
The narrative is easy to read and the author takes the reader on a worldwide tour with excellent descriptions of the Middle East. The characters are well written with realistic dynamic which works well.
The plot was good, not stellar as there were a few plot holes which could have been easily patched up and the translation was a bit awkward in places. If you knew Hebrew or the phrasing you would get it, but if you didn’t you would have left scratching your head since some phrases were literally translated instead of figuratively.
The book does has international flavor and kept my interest. The beginning is fast and so is the end, the middle manages to be unpredictable (to a degree) and suspenseful.
Synopsis:
Cobra is the nickname of Mossad agent Nisim Kobarsky. Cobra has been in the field for a long time and is given a respite, in the form of low risk mission to follow extreme Muslim students in France.
Under the assumed identity of an Argentinean / Syrian student Pedro Tariki, Cobra infiltrates the group and develops a friendship with Sergey Isamilov, a Muslim Soviet Officer from Tajikistan. When the mission inevitably goes wrong, Cobra becomes the pray without being aware of the danger to him and his loved ones.
