Thoughts:
I was glad to receive Forgiving Mariela Camacho by A. J. Sidransky, since I enjoyed his first book, Forgiving Maximo Rothman. I waited a bit to read this book, but got sucked into the plot almost immediately, as if I read Forgiving Maximo Rothman last week.

This novel is an exciting, fast paced page turner with many themes. Besides being an excellent police procedural, the book touches on the lives of immigrants, the communities they built in the US, the past that always haunts them and the love of families.

The previous book mainly dealt with the Jewish immigrants to the Dominican Republic during / after World War II. This book deals somewhat with that subject, as well as the crime in the Dominican Republic as well as with Russian immigration.

I enjoyed the procedural of this book, how two NYPD members tracked an insane, sadistic serial killer. The author managed to weave suspense, police procedural, interesting characters and side stories in a way which made reading this book a real pleasure.

Synopsis:
Detective Tolya Kurchenko and his partner, Detective Pete Gonzalvez answer a call to an apparent suicide, however they quickly become realize that this was a murder. In a cruel twist, Pete recognizes the victim as a former love.
