Aubrey Thomas de Vere (10 January, 1814 – 20 January, 1902) was an Irish poet who brought Christian perspective to his poems.

- Aubrey Thomas Hunt de Vere was born in Kilcornan, County Limerick, Ireland. He was the third son of Sir Aubrey de Vere, 2nd Baronet and Mary Spring Rice.
- His cousin was Irish poet Lucy Knox. She mainly wrote about social issues, politics, as well as marriage and love.
- Mr. de Vere was home schooled until is admitted to Trinity College, Dublin. The college opened his world to influential poets and philosophers including Emmanuel Kant and Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
- Even though Mr. de Vere was tall and slender, he was known to be thoughtful, dignified and graceful. He remained mentally active until he was very old.
- Being of good character, he had many friends, and even though he had many turmoil sin his life he still kept contact with them.
- Poet John Henry Newman influenced Mr. de Vere’s poetry. The two met when de Vere visited Rome.
- Aubrey Thomas de Vere visited, and stayed with, poet William Wordsworth.The young man was honored to stay with the famous poet and made sure to visit his grave every year until he was too old to make the journey. Along with Wordsworth, some other inspirations included Lord Byron.
- When the 1901 census was taken in England, Aubrey Thomas de Vere’s occupation was listed as “author”. For a few years though, he was a professor in the Catholic University in Dublin.
- Aubrey Thomas de Vere inspired others to study Celtic literature and legends.
- The poet never married, and on his death bed the name de Vere died with him. His nephew, however, assumed the name. This was the second time someone has assumed the name, his father changed it from Hunt to assume the name “de Vere”, with permission of the royalty of course.
