I decided to join the Armchair BEA this year because even though I’m in close proximity to NYC I decided that this year, again, my money will be better spent elsewhere (food, shelter, kids, etc.). But the Armchair BEA promises to be fun as well.
So here it goes…
- Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?
I’m a husband, father or two mischievous children who actually puts some time away everyday to read. I got into blogging by doing a LibraryThing challenge (50 books a year) and had no where that I can call my own to write my thoughts about them and hopefully interact. - What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?
I’m currently reading Only One Life by Sara Blaedel, a Danish Crime Writer. I have read one other book by Ms. Blaedel of the same series and got the opportunity to read this one before it comes out. - Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.
I used to do a lot of wood working, I actually had one of my projects published. However, since we moved I no longer have the space to do so.
More time to read. I guess. - What is your favorite feature on your blog (i.e. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)?
As a fan of trivia, my favorite feature on my blog is Fun Facts Friday. This is where I pick a subject, usually related (born on) or vaguely related (born this week…) to that day and write 10 fun facts about him/her/it. - Where do you see your blog in five years?
I don’t know where my blog would be in five years. A book blog is a lot of work and my free time seems to get less and less. Hopefully I’ll still be around and so will the blog with many guest posts and several from your humble servant. While I kept up a maniacal reading schedule the last two years, and hope to keep it that way, I’m sure I’ll slow down in my old age. - Which is your favorite post that you have written that you want everyone to read?
I’m really proud of my post Classic Lit for Kids – Getting Started. The effort behind this post is not as much the writing as much as it was the research behind it. Seeing what works with my children, reading up on some techniques and, of course, picking the perfect book. - If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?
There are many characters and authors I’d like to spend some time with, D’Artagnan and the other Three Musketeers, Alexandre Dumas, Robert Ludlum, Ian Fleming and more but I think Neil Gaiman would seem as if he would be the most fun and interesting of the bunch. - What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?
Actually I like the opposite, reading about locations I’ve been to – alas that is not the question.
I’d like to visit 220B Baker St. in London. To me that is the most famous literary address.
I also heard there is a nice museum there. - What is your favorite part about the book blogging community? Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years?
My favorite part is, of course, the people I meet and the supportive community in general. I’d like to see more discussions in the coming years, people to comment on posts they disagree with and why.
That makes for a more livelier discussion. - Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How?
I don’t think my reading taste has changed, more likely it has grown, adapted, matured. I give 100% credit to my blog because I had access to many more books than I can possibly read and/or dream about. While I still shy away from certain genres, I am more open to others, to Indie books and stories I normally would not have been picking up.

I think that would be a wickedly fun dinner to attend and I must say that I read your blog all the time, even if I don’t comment as much as I should.
Thanks Ryan, same here.
Neil Gaiman would definitely be a fun meal mate.

I think that I have definitely broadened my book reading as well because of the access to books that blogging has given me. Isn’t that awesome though? I love it!
Yes, I think that’s one of the best parts
One of the best things about Armchair BEA is coming across so many different kinds of people. I especially love hearing why different people started blogging. So nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you as well.
I like the sound of your Fun Facts Friday. I’ll have to check it out!
Have a great Armchair week!
