Arna Bontemps (13 October, 1902 – 4 June, 1973) was an African-American member of the Harlem Renaissance, a poet, librarian, and novelist.

Take My Hand is the story of a young African-American nurse who finds herself administering trial sterilization shots to young African-American girls.
