Thoughts:

After reading Nightwing Vol. 1: Better Than Batman (Rebirth) by Tim Seeley (illustrated by Javier Fernandez, colored by Chris Sotomayor) I thought I’d give the graphic novel Nightwing Vol. 2: Back to Blüdhaven (Rebirth) by Tim Seeley (illustrated by Marcus To, colored by Chris Sotomayor) a chance to build on the story. I really like this version of Nightwing, not too whiny, not welcomed where he landed, and trying to find himself.

The strength of the story is Nightwing’s interaction with his new friends, villains turned not-so-bad-guys, and a new girlfriend. The issue which features Superman was very good, but the rest were just OK – nothing special.

The story is your standard super-stranger is a new town. Helping a bunch of misfits, a bad-tempered cigar chomping cop, and of course a love interest. The bad guy is just there to bring all the cast together and create some perceived danger to make them all work tighter – think of Steppenwolf from the Justice League movie.

I found the love story silly, and thought the writer didn’t take his time with the whole story-line.  The beauty of this type of story-telling is that one can take the time to tell a good, comprehensive story and not rush it.

Synopsis:

Dick Greyson has hung up his Robin costume and retired from the super-spy game only to get back into his life as the superhero Nightwing.
