Thoughts:
This book is very creative and unique, as far as I know. The recipes seem easy to follow, as well as delicious. I took a cursory look throughout and did not notice any hard-to-get ingredients, a big plus in my opinion. No recipe, which I looked at, consisted of more than six steps, the Mushroom liqueur, however, takes 14 days to make (that’s just step 1).
I really enjoy looking at cookbooks, and Beyond Grapes: Simple Recipes for Delicious Homemade Liqueurs by Yacov Morad was no exception. While I don’t try every recipe, I usually try a few, but more than that, I get ideas to enhance my favorite recipes. The book is divided into six sections. Specialty liqueurs, fruit liqueurs, mixed liqueurs, veggie & herbal liqueurs, homemade vodka, and homemade moonshine.
Specialty liqueurs: includes such unique concoctions as mushroom, pistachio, and cola liqueur. As well as a delicious Nutella liqueur (a food group of its own, as far as I’m concerned).
Fruit liqueurs: gives recipes for plum, blueberry, apple cider, banana and more.
Mixed liquors: This is the biggest section and includes such delicacies as apple coconut liqueur, fig nu liqueur, mango apple, and a wonderful date cardamom, and date cocoa liqueurs.
Veggie & herbal liqueurs: Lavender, lemongrass, brussels sports, and beet liqueurs all caught my eye.
Homemade vodka and homemade moonshine are the last sections. While they seem to be creative and unique, I’m probably not going to try them.
