Edward Stratemeyer (4 October, 1862 – 10 May, 1930) was a writer, publisher, and creator of the Stratemeyer Syndicate that produced over 1,300 beloved novels.

Bel Kaufman (10 May, 1911 – 25 July, 2014), born as Bella, in Berlin, Germany, was an American author and educator known for her novel Up the Down Staircase.

On 1 September 1871, author Stephen Crane was born (d. 5 June, 1900). Crane is best known for his book The Red Badge of Courage. I must say that of all the books I was forced to read in high school, this is one of the few books which I remember.
