Thoughts:
I enjoyed Teen Titans Vol. 1: Damian Knows Best very much and was looking forward to reading Teen Titans Vol. 2: The Rise of Aqualad by Benjamin Percy (illustrated by Khoi Pham). What I got was a pretty good adventure story and a refreshing take on Aqualad.
The art was solid, but not very consistent. I wish DC Comics would plan the graphic novels collections a bit better and assign (if possible) the art teams with that in mind.
The Aqualad arc, even though it was clichéd, was solid, good storytelling and strong narrative. The pace was good as well, I enjoyed the banter and character interactions much more than the main adventure story.
The writer kept this arc simple, enjoyable, and character driven. Overall this was a good read, the characters are different enough to make a new story exciting, but still have the traits of the beloved heroes we came to know.
Synopsis:
As the Teen Titans are settling into their new tower in San Francisco, a prison breakout happens and some suspicious disappearances are happening with it. In order to save the kidnapped people, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Kid Flash have to deal with King Shark, as well as get used to Damian Wayne’s (Robin) unusual management style.
Jackson Hyde (Aqualad), seeing the Teen Titans in action, knows he has powers which can be of use and head to the tower to join the team.
