Thoughts:
Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore is considered a landmark book which became part of the DC Comics canon in telling the origins of The Joker. The story is not only influential, but beloved as well and have been since its publication in 1989.

I thought the book was good, but it was not Alan Moore’s best work (I loved The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), however it is very atmospheric and tragic with a great storyline. What makes the book a classic is Brian Bolland’s fantastic artwork. The panels are confident and match the decisive storytelling perfectly.

The tale of the man who one day would become The Joker is excellent. I don’t know if Mr. Moore intended to contribute this much to the DC mythology (the largest contribution is that of Barbara Gordon’s tale) but in this story he did.

The Killing Joke is exactly what graphics novels should be, an excellent story told in both narrative and pictures to create an enduring tale. If you didn’t read this one yet, go ahead and pick it up even if it’s not the Deluxe Edition.
