Thoughts:
Karate Basics: Everything You Need to Get Started in Karate – from Basic Punches to Training and Tournaments by Robin Rielly, another martial arts title from Tuttle Publishing, is well written and organized guide to those just starting out studying Karate, or thinking about starting.
One of the most important aspects of this book is that it helps a new student choose a school. While most people choose the school that’s closest to them, or the most affordable, that might not be the case as there are many other aspects which one should consider.
Starting with the origins and philosophy of the sport, the book dives into elements of Karate, as well as tips about creating training programs and an overview of competitions. The book also shows some basic stands and stances, but as always one cannot learn this stuff from a book, or a video, but only from a qualified teacher.
