Ved Mehta (21 March 1934 – 9 January 2021) was an Indian writer who lived in the United States and wrote mostly about the Anglo-Indian relations.

- Ved Parkash Mehta was bornin Lahore, part of British India but is now in modern day Pakistan.
- Shanti and Amolak Ram Mehta, his parents, worked for the Indian government as public health officials.
- When he was three years old, young Ved was blinded due to complications of cerebrospinal meningitis. His parents sent him to a special school in Bombay (Mumbai today) called the Dadar School for the Blind. At the time, blind people were very limited, and the school was very far away.
- Ved Mehta was an excellent student, eventually getting a BA from Pnoma College, another BA from Balliol College, Oxford, and an MA from Harvard in 1961.
- Even though there weren’t many books available in Braille, he had help from his fellow students who read to him. In his second book of memoirs,Stolen light, he thanks to Eugene “Gene” Rose for his great help.
- Face to Face, Ved Mehta’s first memoir tells of his childhood and early life. The book ends around the time he enrolled in college.
- Eventually he wrote about 25 books, hundreds of articles, and short stories. They were published in America, England, and India of course.
- From 1961 to 1964 Ved Meta was a staff writer at the New Yorker. One of his most famous articles was interviews with Oxford philosophers.
- He married Linn Fenimore Cooper in 1983, a decedent of the famous author James Fenimore Cooper.
- Mr. Mehta Mehta received Guggenheim Fellowships, named a MacArthur Fellow, and was elected as fellow of the Royal Society of Literature as well as receiving several honorary degrees.
