Thoughts:
Nemesis by Jo Nesbø is an absorbing novel in which chaos reigns. I don’t know if the author meant for the book to be a bit confusing, as is the protagonist, or it just happen to be that way but the storytelling which sometimes strays but always gets back on track seems to be in sync with how Harry Hole sees the world.

I did not read this book in English, which gave me a different perspective on the Harry Hole novels. For example, the name itself in English is Harry Hole, but translated in another language with different emphasis and sounds it is more like Hari Hølā (Hoo-laa), a little point which I really enjoyed. Of course, the Norwegian names were difficult to pronounce, but that is part of the charm of translated novels.

Even though I have read the Harry Hole novels out of order, I find that I enjoy them nonetheless, but I would certainly recommend reading them in the order they were written. While it’s not necessary to the plot, I think being vested in the characters and their own personal narrative, as well as filling in some of the gaps in their lives, would make a good story great.

This novel was an intelligent story of a complex mystery which comes together beautifully at the end. Mr. Nesbø keeps on writing dark and twisted tale. Even though the narrative can leave one a bit perplexed, it is still a worthwhile read.

Synopsis:
Inspector Harry Hole wakes up from a drunken stupor after visiting an old flame with a huge memory gap. Harry comes to find out that his girlfriend is dead, but he is busy investigating a violent bank robbery which turned into a homicide.

Harry’s old gang, like Inspector Tom Waaler make an appurtenance as well as Beate Lonn, a new partner with a photographic memory for faces.
