Thoughts:
I read Debt Free For Life: The Finish Rich Plan for Financial Independence by David Bach because I wanted to better myself and understand finance better in order to improve the life of my family and maybe even retire at some point or even leave a few bucks for the kids when I kick the bucket (I don’t want to even think about buying a farm).

The book does have some good points, but there is nothing new I haven’t read about elsewhere or knew about previously. What bothered me about the book is that the author is plugging his other products to the point where the information just becomes annoying. Yup, turn the page and to sign up for some service to learn more. I was especially disturbed by the author hawking a program powered by… Equifax which seemed to me to be a conflict of interests by the author as well as the credit monitoring company.

When I checked out the program, it’s not free or cheap and at the time of this post it is almost $15 a month ($180 a year). Of course, the program charges your credit card (isn’t that what every “out of debt” expert tells you to avoid?), and you can cancel anytime (bycallingan800numberbetween8and3.Nopartialrefunds) but the whole pushing of this program (the entire 6th chapter is dedicated to the program) throughout the book left a bitter taste in my mouth.

There are some good tips in this book, but it’s very redundant which is either to help the reader remember the tips or being used as filler to make the book thicker. The book seemed like a sales pitch to me, but it has some value especially if this is the first book you’ve read about financing or need a tool to help you manage getting out of debt.
