Thoughts:
Born Speaking Lies by Rob Lenihan is a well written book, but it isn’t a casual read. There is always something happening in the book with every character marching to their own drumming, furthering their own agenda.

The story itself is very violent, sometimes brutal and mostly all the way through. The characters are well written, from the mob boss who is trying to keep his small fiefdom together, to the young guys with no parental guidance in sight trying to make a name for themselves, to the protagonist Bill the Kid, trying to find some peace in his crazy world.

Even though this is a book about mobster, the author stayed away from old clichés about the mafia. Each character seem to be his, or her, own person without the author forcing banalities onto them, their speech or actions.

I was a bit confused by the timeline of the book, one chapter takes place in the past, another in the current timeline and it took me a few pages to realize where I was. The book is a good read nevertheless, I ended up enjoying it much more than I thought I would.

Synopsis:
Billy the Kid, a mobster, gets shot and left for dead in a Pennsylvania forest. Billy tries to let go of his past and disappear into a normal, small town life with the local woman who found him bleeding on the side of the road.

But revenge gets the better of Billy the Kid and while his health deteriorates, he confronts his former crew and boss who had him assassinated.
