Thoughts:

108 Rock Star Guitars by Lisa S. Johnson is a unique work of love. The book consists of photographs of guitar sections which convey the personality of those who play them. This is not a book featuring profiles or portraits, but each guitarist has their favorite instruments which are not as glamorous as being portrayed, but certainly intimate.

Ms. Johnson concentrated on guitar sections you simply don’t see in other books, or don’t even notice which captures the personality of the person playing it. The markings and tear & war on the instruments are unique and personal which makes the guitars one of a kind.

This book is a wonderful book to keep as a coffee table book or by you bedside and flip through it every once in a while, you’ll always notice some interesting new detail or mark which will give you a new or different perspective on the guitar and the guitarist.

Ms. Johnson includes very interesting short stories about the guitars and how she managed to photograph them; an introduction by the legendary Les Paul is also worth a read. The quality of the photos and the book as a whole is excellent, a worthy gift for any guitar or music lover.
