Thoughts:

This is certainly a book filled with ideas. My family and I love to take road trips, and we’re always looking for places to visit. Luckily, the United States has an almost unlimited number of varied places for all tastes and seasons. Finding those places, however, can certainly be a challenge.

1,000 Perfect Weekends: Great Getaways Around the Globe is certainly choke full of ideas. While many of the places featured are out of reach (distance + budget), many others are well within it. This is a beautiful, expansive book, as well as an excellent conversation piece.

Divided into sections, such as beaches, mountains, nature parks, road trips, cities, historical, camping, food and wine, pet-friendly, and more certainly shows of a lot thought was put into building it. However, even though the synopsis states all 50 US states are represented, I couldn’t find Delaware.

Looking through this book is a lot of fun, marking spot where we’ve already been, want to go, and wish to go. Each chapter has a “top ten” list (movie locations, battlefields, historical), some are obvious, however some are surprising.  To my dismay I realized that I was in zero of the top 10 bookstores (pg. 351) mentioned.

I really enjoyed looking through this book, and getting ideas for future trips. While I know I’m not going to all of them (there’s no way in  hell my wife will stay in the hotel where The Shining was filmed), the ideas are certainly flowing.
