I give great credit to the writers and artists of this issue for trying to tell a different story in an interesting way. The timeline jumps every several pages from a few weeks before, to the “now”, to two days ago, all while switching points of view telling the story through different eyes.
I really enjoyed this storyline, a troubled hero (seems like they all are these days) who thinks she’s going to solve some societal problems while taking out her angst on everyone around while protected behind a mask.
I enjoyed the mythology which the writer incorporated in the first story, actually is based very much on mythology.
The tale of the man who one day would become The Joker is excellent. I don’t know if Mr. Moore intended to contribute this much to the DC mythology (the largest contribution is that of Barbara Gordon’s tale) but in this story he did.
Batman, Vol. 1: Court of Owls by Scott Snyder tried to do a very difficult job – reboot Batman!
There is no-one perfect in this book, Batman is flawed, Robin is flawed, even Jim Gordon has a mistress. Actually everyone in Gotham City are a bunch of crooks and criminals, with or without a badge or a cape.
