Steen Steensen Blicher (11 October, 1782 – 26 March, 1848) was a Danish author and poet, know for pioneering the short story in Denmark.

  1. Steen Steensen Blicher was born in Vium, a residential, suburban neighborhood  about 9 miles from Copenhagen, Denmark.
  2. His family were distant relatives of Martin Luther.
  3. Growing up close to nature he tried his hand at agriculture, but eventually became a parson, like his father, service Spentrup, a parish in East Jutland.
  4. Steen Steensen Blicher, however, was more interested in hunting and writing than preaching.
  5. On 11 June, 1819, Steen Steensen Blicher married Ernestine Juliane Berg. The couple had ten children, seven boys and three girls.
  6. Mr. Blicher is known as the pioneer of writing Danish short stories.
  7. The author was published in local periodicals, writing fiction and non-fiction works.
  8. Even though most of Steen Steensen Blicher’s work is considered entertainment, as many as 30 of his stories are considered literary masterpieces.
  9. Mr. Blicher also wrote poetry, some of them are considered important and have been put to music.
  10. To this day many of Steen Steensen Blicher’s novels are in print, and his poems are played. In Denmark, he is as well known as Hans Christian Andersen.
