Károly Kisfaludy (5 February, 1788-21 November, 18:30) was a Hungarian dramatist and artist, and founder of the nation’s drama.

1. Kistatudy Károly (westernized as Károly Kisfaludy) was born in Tet, Hungary was the youngest of eight children. One of his brothers was poet Sándor Kisfaludy.

2. His mother died in childbirth and the youngest son had a difficult relationship with his father.

3. Mr. Kisfaludy joined the army in 1804 and served until 1811. He fought in Serbia, Italy and Bavaria during the Napoleonic Wars.

4. During his military service is when he started writing poetry and songs.

5. His relationship with his father to a turn for the worst when he resigned from the military.

6. Károly Kisfaludy started to study art in Vienna and Italy but could not make a name for himself with his paintings or as a writer.

7. He got his break in 1819 when his two tragedies Tatars in Hungary (A tatárok Magyarországon), and Ilka, or the Capture of Belgrade (Ilka, vagy Nándorfehérvár bevétele) became very successful.

8. Capitalizing on his success, Mr. Kisfaludy followed them up with other dramas and plays.

9.In 1821 he founded the literary journal Aurora which is noted for developing Hungarian literature. He was awarded the Marczibányi Prize for his efforts founding the periodical.

10. Károly Kisfaludy died of tuberculosis in 1830, he never married to the love of his life, Nina Löffler, because she was Jewish, but he did get back into his father’s good graces. To this day Károly Kisfaludy is remembered for his plays, poems, and contribution to literature..
