The big twist in the book comes from the characters’ actions, not a major plot twist as in many novels
The narrative is very absorbing and powerful, I was especially fascinated to read how decisions in the upper echelons of government impact the little person on the street who just wants a good job and a warm meal.
Cotton Malone is asked by the Justice Department to investigate the largest and most dangerous clandestine organization in American history, The Knights of the Golden Circle. The organization is a holdover from the American Civil War and has a cache of gold many are interested in.
This is an enjoyable and fresh story with great artwork and interesting, new characters.
I did find the whole story of the orphan train itself, fascinating and engaging.
