Thoughts:

This book is an accurate biography of Corrie ten Boom including segments which are either overlooked or mistaken in her own biography Hiding Places. This is according to the author’s note; I have not verified these myself.

I enjoyed this book very much; Corrie ten Boom’s accomplishments and heroism must not be forgotten. I have heard her name before, but didn’t realize how famous she was – maybe because I don’t run in the religious circles.

The Watchmakers Daughter by Larry Loftis, I thought, needed some editing and polish. It’s repetitive and some of the phrasing simply didn’t work for me. I previously read the author’s work Code Name: Lise, and thought it was presented much better.

Ms. ten Boom’s father, Casper ten Boom was a brave and respected man, Yad Vashem’s Righteous Among Nations (like others in the family) and certainly deserves recognition. The ten Boom family paid a heavy price for their bravery, however the book never strikes a balance between honoring them and focusing on its subject.

I don’t understand though the title which, I felt, was just strange considering what it’s trying to tell. Yes, Corrie ten Boom’s father was a watchmaker, and yes -she was a renowned watchmaker herself but I refuse to believe a better title could not have been found.

Regardless of the title, this is still a fascinating book, full of brave people who must be remembered. I believe they are honored in the Netherlands, Israel and other nations, and rightly so.
