
Frederik Paludan-Müller (7 February, 1809 – 27 December, 1876) was a poet of the late Romantic movement from Denmark.

- Frederik Paludan-Müller was born in the town of Kerteminde on the island of Funen. The town is basically a small harbor surrounded by farms. Funen is the third largest island in Denmark (165th in the world).
- Jens Paludan-Müller, Frederik’s father, was a bishop, educator and an author who published a collection of his sermons. Bishop Paludan-Müller and his wife, Benedicte Rosenstand-Goiske, had nine children including Casper Paludan-Müller who was among the principal historians of 19th century Denmark. In 1815, Bishp Paludan-Müller was knighted.
- When Frederik Paludan-Müller was 10 years old, the family moved to Odense due to his father’s job. Odense was, and still is, the largest city on Funen.
- This is when he started going to school first to Latin school, and eventually to the University of Copenhagen.
- Mr. Paludan-Müller published his first book in 1832 called Four Romances, as wellas a Love at court, a romantic comedy.
- His initial publications enjoyed considerable success and the next year he published The Dancing Gilr (Dandserinden). The poem, published in Byronic octave rhymes tells of Count Charles who suffered an accident is saved by the beautiful Dione. A strong love affair follows, unfortunately Charles dies and Dione goes mad.
- As far as criticism goes, Mr. Paludan-Müller was pretty lucky. There wasn’t much hostility to him, or his work.
- He took a tour of Europe between 1838 – 1840 which expended his horizons and his work.
- After working on Adam Homo, for nine years, he finally published the narrative epic in 1848.
- Frederik Paludan-Müller lived most of his like on the outskirts of Copenhagen. He is buried in Asminderød Cemetery in Fredensborg.
