Thoughts:
My son (7) bought this book at this school’s book fair. It was a tough decision between Who Was Bruce Lee? by Jim Gigliotti and some Minecraft book, but with a little “prompting” he chose the former. To be perfectly honest, the Minecraft book was already in the closet at home waiting to be opened during the holidays.
The book tells about Lee’s influence in martial arts and pop culture. It also touches on how Lee introduce Chinese culture to mainstream American and his influence in that arena.
I supplemented the material in the book with videos from YouTube, so when we read about the fight between Bruce Lee and Kareem Abdul Jabber in “Game of Death”, I found the video, as well as the classic match between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in “Way of the Dragon”.
We both enjoyed this book very much, it is short and easy to read with cool illustrations. The book touches on the complex character of Bruce Lee and tells of the highpoints in his short, yet full life.
