In which interview myself….
Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Snacking and reading – a dangerous pastime. I usually don’t snack and read, but I love to do so, the only time I do read and eat is during lunch.
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I don’t mark my books, but the idea doesn’t horrify me either. I actually think it’s a good idea but I never got used to doing so, maybe because the first book I actually bought instead of borrow from the library was in my teens.
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
I use a bookmark, it’s more convenient than dog ears or laying the book flat (which in a house with two kids won’t last long).
Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Both but I try to mix them up (reading one fiction, one non-fiction). I also like to read fiction books about topics I am interested in a non-fiction area.
Hard copy or audiobooks?
Hard copy.
Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I’m able to put the book down at any point, but I rarely do so. I make an effort, when I stop reading for a long time (for example, going to bed) to finish a chapter.
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Depends, on my nook I look it up right away.
What are you currently reading?
Skeleton Women by Mingmei Yip
What is the last book you bought?
Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer – last weekend in a garage sale.
Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
I’m a man – we cannot multitask.
Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
I absolutely love to read at the dining room table with a snack and a drink. But as I said in the first question… a dangerous pastime indeed.
Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
I like books I enjoy, however when reading a series I do prefer to read in order.
Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
I truly enjoy Robert Ludlum, Ian Fleming and Daniel Siva’s books.
How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)
I give most of my books away, either to the libraries, friends or hospitals and such. Very few books do I keep for myself, but if I had to organize them I’d probably put the ones I refer to often somewhere convenient and use the rest as a design element (organized by color / height.

Great to get a man’s perspective on these questions! I enjoyed your responses, especially the comment about the dangerous pastime of snacking and reading!
It’s been really fun reading your responses and thinking about my own answer to each questions. Happy Book Blogger Appreciation Week 🙂
Thank you Angela, same to you.
enjoyed the interview! I agree with the dangers of keeping books flat open with two kids in the house or even keeping books accessible to them.. Reading while eating was something I did as a kid and was constantly reminded not to.. now, I am adult, and.. I still do it.my BBAW link is http://myrandrspace.blogspot.com/2012/09/bbaw-day-2-interview.html
I used to read and eat as well as a kid, maybe that’s why I like it so much.
Great interview! I appreciate you realize your limitations can only read one book at a time…sigh…I must read several. I don’t necessarily snack and read but I do drink red wine and read.
Thank you April, I don’t know how you can read several, sometimes I wish I could but I keep reminding myself it’s not a race.
Loved reading your answers! I only occasionally multitask myself…. Here are Mine.
Loved your interview Bev 🙂
I loved your answer to reading more than one book at a time… made me laugh out loud. Thanks! I needed that!
Thanks, glad I could make you laugh.
I have a need to read series in order as well. “we cannot multitask” haha, cracked me up 😀
I know some books in many series are independent, but I keep thinking I miss something (and usually do) if not reading in order.
Great interview! I’m a fan of the paper book, too. I’m going to try some audio books for variety but there is something I love about the hard copy books!
I don’t have a problem stopping at any point while reading but, like you, I try to finish a chapter when I won’t get back to a book for a while.
Into Thin Air was an intense, fascinating book, I thought. I hope you enjoy it.
I think it’s wonderful that you give most of your books away. I’ve started doing that since there are very few books I read that I will re-read.
I liked your interview…it’s great getting to know you. And, as one who enjoys snacking while reading, yep, it sure can be dangerous!
Thanks for the comment Amy, I think Into Thin Air just moved a few notches up the TBR list.
